MY DIVING PHILOSOPHY
In 2016 I learned to scuba dive because I wrote it down on a post-it note. Each year I log 100+ dives. I hold wildly unpopular opinions like fish and crustaceans feel pain, killing for “conservation sake” is not conservation, and diving in sub 65°F water is where it's at. I also hold the occasional popular opinion—beer is good for you, let's retire on a boat. I am a scuba diving instructor who believes in teaching people to dive (and live) kindly, to respect the ocean and the creatures in it, and to have fun while doing it, as well as perhaps face a few personal demons. I teach with empathy, compassion, openness, and humor. I live in Florida. I hail from South Africa. And when I'm not diving, I'm working my dream job at Scuba Diving magazine.
