Of cave diving origin I am sure, this is the most sensible diction to use when referring to how much money you will need to spend on the next bit of diving gear.

To be clear, a scuba unit is $1,000.

And, let’s be honest, that’s a pretty average amount to drop on a scuba purchase.

Cost of dry suit? 2 – 3 scuba units.

Cost of multi-gas dive computer? 1 scuba unit.

Cost of dive trip overseas? 3 scuba units.

Cost of liveaboard trip not overseas? 1.5 scuba units.

Rebreather? 5 – 10 scuba units

Lifetime of scuba diving? ∞ scuba units

So, forget scuba unit as a term to refer to your assembled scuba gear. There’s a much more useful explanation. And doesn’t it sound better than speaking in thousands of dollars?
